FOOTBALL RECIPIENT OF SACRAMENTO STATE’S MALE TEAM PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

Football has been awarded Sacramento State's Male Team Performance of the Year…the Hornets scored on their first possession of the game, never trailed and made late defensive stops in a 28-21 win over fifth-ranked Montana at Washington-Grizzly Stadium…the win was the first for the Hornets in 13 games in Missoula…in addition, the Grizzlies hadn't lost at home against any opponent in 1,064 days…Sacramento State controlled the game, outgaining Montana, 456-272…the Hornets had 302 yards through the air and 154 on the ground…Sacramento State also had 30 first downs (to Montana's 17), and was 9-for-15 in third down conversions.

Baseball - The Hornets took down then-No. 6 ranked Long Beach State in a trio of one-run games…the 3-game sweep put Sacramento State in the national rankings for only the second time as a Div. I program, debuting at No. 20 in the Baseball America poll, and No. 25 in the USA Today coaches poll…the No. 20 ranking by Baseball America was the highest the Hornets have reached in any poll in the program's Div. I era…the sweep included wins by the scores of 1-0, 5-4 and 5-4…Cesar Valero, Steven Moretto, and Josh Rolling all slugged go-ahead home runs.
 
Golf - The Hornets erased a six-stroke deficit heading into the final round to win the UC San Diego Invitational by one stroke at La Costa Champions Course…the Hornets were 1-over in the third round and stormed back to defeat the host Tritons who were 8-over during the day…the team finished with a three-round total of 289-276-289-854 while UCSD stood at 279-280-296-855…Sacramento State posted the lowest team score during the final day by four strokes and were led by a 71 from Blaze Akana who placed third overall (71-69-71-211).
 
Track & Field - The Hornets posted a convincing 95-79 home win over UC Davis at the Causeway Track Classic…the Hornets won nine event titles, with seven coming in the field events…Miles Grant finished first in the high jump, John Gibbs won the pole vault while setting a PR, Mason Mitchell won the long jump, and Sawyer Howard was first in the shot put…Evan Stork won the hammer by over 38 feet, and Jack Charlton won the javelin…Blaize Holland won the 100 meter title, Nautus Moore set a career best with a 48.24 in the 400, and Jack Charlton won the 110-hurdles.
