SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Carl Reed has been named Sacramento State Senior Associate Athletics Director for Facilities, Operations and Capital Projects, it was announced by Director of Athletics Mark Orr.
Reed will serve on the Athletic Department's senior management team and will oversee all facility and event operations. Reed will also play a large role in the planning and execution of future NCAA championships and USA Track & Field events being hosted by Sacramento State.
"Carl is one of the most respected individuals in his position in college athletics," Orr said. "He brings experience from all levels and will help us execute events at the highest level while also continuing to plan our future."
Reed most recently served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Administration at Santa Clara for the last five years. With the Broncos, he was the sports administrator for men's and women's water polo, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's rowing. He also oversaw the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and served as the department's liaison with student life, housing and Title IX. He also started the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts for the Department of Athletics.

"It will be great to watch our 500 student-athletes and their coaches compete for excellence, not just on the playing surface but in the classroom as well. Reed previously worked at the University of Southern California from 2013-17 as the Assistant Athletic Director/General Manager of the Galen Center. At USC, he supervised and administered all event operations including non-athletic events and award shows at the Galen Center. He helped generate $1.3 million in revenue annually and was responsible for marketing and promoting the Galen Center to outside advertisers, university staff and the public.
Prior to USC, he was the facilities manager of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena for two years where he managed the day-to-day operations as well as directed maintenance and renovation for both facilities.
He was the Director of Athletics at Cal State Channel Islands from 2009 to 2011 and spearheaded the development and creation of the intercollegiate athletics program for the university. He has also worked at San Diego (2000-03) and was the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities, Operations and Events at Stanford (2003-09).
Reed earned his master's of arts in health physical education and recreation from St. Mary's College after earning his bachelors of arts in government from there as well.
