  • MEN'S GOLF FINISHES THIRD AT BIG SKY CHAMPIONSHIP

    The Sacramento State men’s golf team produced its best round of the Big Sky Championship but could not quite erase its deficit in the final round. The Hornets totaled 284 on Wednesday and finished two strokes behind Weber State and one back of Northern Colorado in the final standings.

    All seven teams in the Big Sky Men’s Golf Championship improved their scores from the first to second round setting up what could be a dramatic final round on Wednesday at Talking Stick Golf Club. Sacramento State totaled 288 during the second round and finds itself four strokes off the lead which is held by Weber State.

    Following three rounds of 71 which left him at 3-under par at the El Macero Classic, Sacramento State’s Casey Leebrick was named the Big Sky Men’s Golfer of the Week. The honor is the first for Leebrick this season and the second of his career.

    The Sacramento State men’s golf team is one stroke off the lead after the first day of the Big Sky Championship on Monday at Talking Stick Golf Club. The Hornets were 14-over par on the par 70 course, leading to a team score of 294. Idaho sits in first at 293 while Southern Utah is third at 296.
  • MEN'S GOLF ENDS EL MACERO CLASSIC WITH 2-UNDER PAR ROUND

    Casey Leebrick, Blaze Akana and Jonathan Tanihana each shot 71 to help the Sacramento State men’s golf team finish the third round of the El Macero Classic at 2-under par. The team’s score of 286 on Friday was the third best among the 14 teams. The Hornets finished the tournament tied for eighth place at 288-297-286-871.

    The Sacramento State men’s golf team fought its way through wind and rain during the second day of the El Macero Classic on Thursday. The Hornets were led by Casey Leebrick who moved into 12th place overall with his second consecutive round of 71.

    Riley Bell shot a 4-under par round of 68 and is tied for third place after the first round of the El Macero Classic on Wednesday. Bell’s score helped the Hornets finish even par as a team which ties for fifth place.

    Ethan Davidson recorded his fifth top-five finish of the season as he tied for second place at the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate on Tuesday at Sandpiper Golf Course. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after the second round on Monday was cancelled due to high winds.

    Behind under-par rounds from Ethan Davidson and Blaze Akana, the Sacramento State men’s golf team is in second place following the first day of the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate on Monday at Sandpiper GC. Due to high winds, the opening day of the tournament was shortened to one round from two. The tournament will conclude with a single round on Tuesday.

    The Sacramento State finished the first day of the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational in first place but started the second day tied with the rest of the teams as the tournament reset due to unplayable conditions on Monday. Tuesday was not as kind to the team as the Hornets 26-over par as a team and finished tied for 19th in the 23-team field.

  • MEN'S GOLF ROARS BACK TO WIN UC SAN DIEGO INVITATIONAL BY ONE SHOT

    The Sacramento State men’s golf team erased a six-stroke deficit heading into the final round to win the UC San Diego Invitational by one stroke on Tuesday at La Costa Champions Course. The Hornets were 1-over in the third round and stormed back to defeat the host Tritons who were 8-over during the day. The team finished with a three-round total of 289-276-289-854 while UCSD stood at 279-280-296-855.

    The Sacramento State men’s golf team counted four scores of at least 2-under par and finished the third round of the GCU Invitational at 9-under as team on Tuesday. The Hornets’ team score of 275 in the round is tied for the fifth lowest in program history.

    The second round of the GCU Invitational was halted due to darkness on Monday with teams having between two and four holes remaining. Sacramento State currently sits in seventh place in the 23-team field. The Hornets were 3-under par in the first round and are 4-over in the second round.

  • BEVERLY EARNS CHARLIE SIFFORD MEMORIAL EXEMPTION TO COMPETE AT GENESIS INVITATIONAL

    Former Sacramento State men’s golfer and current Hornet assistant coach Aaron Beverly was selected as the recipient of the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption into the 2022 Genesis Invitational, it was announced today by Tiger Woods. Beverly will join the 120-player field at The Riviera Country Club for the PGA Tour event on Feb. 17-20. Awarded annually since 2009, the Sifford exemption represents the advancement of diversity in the game of golf.

    The Sacramento State men’s golf team completed a record-breaking effort with an amazing individual performance during the final round of the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate on Sunday. Led by a 63 from Jonathan Tanihana, the Hornets were 12-under par as a team during the round and finished the tournament with a three-round total of 835.

The Hornets are now 5-under par for the tournament and head into Sunday’s final round in ninth place.

The team totaled 280 and is tied with Utah for fifth place after the first of three rounds. Washington State shot 268 to lead BYU by two strokes.

    Sacramento State’s Ethan Davidson was named the Big Sky Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for the second time this season, it was announced today. Davidson previously earned the award Sept. 29 and has now been honored six times during his career.
