    A season best from Darius Armstead in the men’s triple jump allowed him to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Armstead jumped 52-05.50 on his second attempt and finished in fourth place at the NCAA West Preliminary on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The top 12 finishers in the event earned a spot in the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 6-9.

    Three more Sacramento State track and field student-athletes competed in the second day of the NCAA West Preliminary on Friday at Hornet Stadium. The Hornets advanced one athlete to the next round during the day and nearly had another earn a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

    Hornet Stadium will serve as host to some of the best athletes in the world as the NCAA Div. I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary comes to the venue on May 24-26. Action begins each day with throwing events at 12 p.m. Running events will start at 4:30 on Thursday and Friday and at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
  • TRACK & FIELD QUALIFIES NINE STUDENT-ATHLETES IN 11 EVENTS FOR NCAA WEST PRELIMINARY

    Nine members of the Sacramento State track and field teams will compete in 11 events at the NCAA West Preliminary next week at Hornet Stadium. The meet, which will take place May 24-26, serves as the first and second rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Each individual event will have 48 competitors, relays will have 24 teams, with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.

The Hornet men finished in fifth place.

    The Sacramento State track and field team concluded its 2018 regular season with the Sacramento State Open on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. With both teams resting athletes heading into next week’s Big Sky Outdoor Championships, the Sacramento State men and women both finished in second place in the team standings. BYU took first in the women’s competition with 182 points while the Hornets had 156. The Cougar men scored 180 to edge Sacramento State (157).

    The Sacramento State men’s and women’s track and field teams will have the rare opportunity to compete at Hornet Stadium in back-to-back meets as the team hosts the Sacramento State Open on Saturday. The meet is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with the women’s hammer. The first running event will be the women’s 5K at 10:30 a.m. and the meet is scheduled to conclude around 3:30 p.m.

    Sacramento State’s Darius Armstead was named the Big Sky Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week following his performance at the Causeway Classic Dual Meet last Friday night at Hornet Stadium. The honor is the first for Armstead this season and the third of his career.
  • WOMEN ROLL TO CAUSEWAY TITLE; MEN FALL BY THREE POINTS

    Sacramento State women won 13 of the 18 events and easily rolled to a victory over UC Davis in the annual Causeway Classic Dual Meet on Friday night at Hornet Stadium. The Hornets totaled 113 points compared to 75 from the Aggies. The men’s competition was much closer as UC Davis held on for a 96-93 win.

    The Sacramento State men's and women's track and field teams will look for a little home field advantage as it welcomes UC Davis for the 13th annual Causeway Classic Dual Meet on Friday night at Hornet Stadium. The meet starts with the men's hammer at 2:45 p.m. The long jump begins the events inside the stadium at 3:30 p.m. and the running events start at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s 4x100 relay.

The Hornets split their attention between the two meets over the last two days but will reunite for the Beach Invitational on Saturday at Long Beach State.

    The first of consecutive trips to Southern California for the Sacramento State track and field teams begins this weekend as the Hornets will participate in the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational on Saturday at UCLA. The meet begins with field events at 8:30 a.m. Track events will start at 2:40 p.m. and are scheduled to conclude at 6 p.m.
  • WOMEN WIN TEAM TITLE, MEN FINISH THIRD AT MONDO TEAM CHALLENGE

    Sacramento State individuals recorded six event victories and the women’s team claimed the team title at the Mondo Team Challenge on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The women scored 140 points to finished just ahead of Southern Illinois (132.5) and UNLV (126). The Hornet men finished in third place with 130 points placing the team behind SIU (178) and Long Beach State (134).
  • MONDO TEAM CHALLENGE UP NEXT FOR TRACK & FIELD

    For the second time in three weeks, the Sacramento State track & field teams will have the luxury of competing at home as the teams will host the Mondo Team Challenge on Saturday, March 31, at Hornet Stadium. The seven-team meet will begin with women’s hammer competition at 9:30 a.m. The first running event will be the 4x100 relay at 1:15 p.m. and the meet is scheduled to conclude with the 4x400 at 4:25 p.m.

    Cassidy Zurn, Andre Lindsey and Julia Grimm were each named Big Sky Conference athletes of the week, it was announced today. Zurn was the recipient of the women’s track award. Lindsey was named the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week and Grimm was the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

    The Sacramento State men’s and women’s track and field teams each finished first at the UC Riverside Spring Classic Invitational on Saturday. The Hornet men compiled 134 points to place the team 27 points ahead of second place Utah Valley. The women’s team totaled 156 points which was twice the mark of second place UC Irvine (87.5).

    After producing the top marks in the Big Sky this season in their events, Denise Reis and Jah Strange were both named Big Sky Conference Athletes of the Week. Reis was named the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week while Strange was the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.
