STRANGE AND BRANDON NAMED BIG SKY ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

OGDEN, Utah — The Sacramento State track & field teams took home half of the Big Sky Conference weekly awards as Jah Strange was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Danielle Brandon earned the Women's Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced today.

This past weekend, both athletes posted career bests at the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. Strange set the Sacramento State school record and had the second best triple jump in the Big Sky Conference this season with his jump of 51-03.5. The mark came on his first attempt at the meet and broke Darius Armstead's school record which was set last season. Stange is one of only two jumpers in the Big Sky to surpass 50 feet this season.

Competing in her first meet of the season, Brandon took over as the Big Sky leader in the pole vault after clearing 13-04.25. That height set a new PR for the senior and placed her second in Sacramento State indoor history and seventh in the Big Sky record book. Brandon now leads the Big Sky by 2.75 inches.

The Hornets will participate in a pair of meets this weekend in Seattle. The team will take part in the Husky Classic on Feb. 9-10 and the UW Open on Feb. 11. Sacramento State will then go to the Big Sky Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-24 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
