    The Sacramento State track and field program added 19 student-athletes to its 2021 recruiting class it was announced today. The group joins nine others who committed to the Hornets earlier this year.

    The Sacramento State men?s and women?s track and field teams each posted convincing victories over UC Davis in the annual Causeway Track Classic on Friday at Woody Wilson Track. The Hornet men defeated the Aggies, 94-75, while the women posted a 103-78 victory.

    The regular season for the Sacramento State track and field teams continues this Friday, Apr. 30, with the annual Causeway Track Classic. This year’s competition was a late addition to the schedule as UC Davis was recently allowed to host home meets at Woody Wilson Track.

    The Sacramento State track and field teams will participate in their final meet of the regular season on Saturday, Apr. 24, at the Fresno State Invite. The meet will be the final tuneup before the Hornets go to the Big Sky Championships in Ogden, Utah on May 12-15.
  • NNAJI SETS SCHOOL RECORD TO HIGHLIGHT EFFORTS AT SACRAMENTO STATE INVITATIONAL

    The Sacramento State track and field team held its final home meet of the season with the Sacramento State Invitational on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. While the bulk of the action took place on Saturday afternoon, the highlight of the meet for the team came on Friday at UC Davis in the hammer competition. Shantel Nnaji set the school record and finished first with a best of 185-00 on her final attempt. That toss was nearly 20 feet beyond her previous best and surpassed Erinn Jones’ record of 183-10 which was set in 2015.

    The Sacramento State track and field teams will host their final meet of the season with the Sacramento State Invitational on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The meet will be a scored competition between the Hornets, UC Davis and San Jose State. The action gets underway on Saturday at 11 a.m. and is scheduled to concluded at 3:45 p.m.

    The Sacramento State track and field team will return to Hornet Stadium for the Sacramento State Open on Saturday, Apr. 3. The meet will start with the women?s discus at 10 a.m. Running events will get underway at 11:15 a.n. with the women?s 3K and the meet will conclude with the men?s 4x400 at 3:45 p.m. Along with Sacramento State, the meet will also feature Idaho and William Jessup.

    Beginning this month, Sacramento State will be allowed to have up to 20 percent capacity for outdoor home athletic events.

    The Sacramento State women were picked third and the men ninth in the 2021 Big Sky Conference outdoor track & field preseason poll. The poll was conducted by a vote of the league’s head coaches who could not vote for their own team.

    Shantel Nnaji and LaTrouchka Duke were each victorious for Sacramento State at the Hornet Invitational on Saturday. Nnaji finished first in the women’s discus for her second win in the event this year. Duke added a title in the women’s 100 to take down a talented field.

    The Sacramento State men’s and women’s track & field teams will host the second of four home meets this season with the Hornet Invite on Saturday at Hornet Stadium,. The meet will include student-athletes from Sacramento State, Montana State, UC Davis, San Jose State and Stanford and will be scored.

    The Sacramento State track and field teams combined for three individual event wins, 13 top-three finishes, 39 season bests and 31 careers bests over the two days of the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton. The Hornet men and women each finished in fifth place in the team scored event.

    The Sacramento State track and field teams will travel to Fullerton, Calif., to compete at the Ben Brown Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The opening day of the meet with feature the men’s and women’s hammer, pole vault, javelin, discus and shot put competitions as well as the 800, 1500 and 5K. Saturday’s action begins with the men’s long jump at 11 am. and is set to conclude at 4:45 with the women’s 4x400.
  • LIMITED FAN ATTENDANCE TO BEGIN IN APRIL FOR OUTDOOR HOME EVENTS

    Beginning April 1, Sacramento State will allow a limited number of fans to attend outdoor home events. Per guidelines set by the California Department of Public Health, up to 100 spectators will be permitted to attend outdoor home events while Sacramento County remains in the purple tier.

    The Sacramento State men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete in another small meet as the Hornets travel to Berkeley, Calif., for a dual meet at Cal on Saturday.     Mia Lawrence, Jabari Reynolds, Alec Foster, Evan Stork and the men’s 4x400 relay team each recorded event victories to lead Sacramento State in a dual meet at Cal on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears captured the team titles in both genders. The Cal women defeated the Hornets, 98-32, while the men posted a 90-40 victory.

    The Sacramento State men’s and women’s track and field teams returned to outdoor competition for the first time in nearly two years on Saturday in a tri-meet against UC Davis and Nevada at Hornet Stadium. The Hornet men finished victorious in a two-team competition against the Aggies, outscoring UC Davis, 77-66. The women were second as Nevada totaled 121 points. Sacramento State finished with 108 while UC Davis had 89.

    The Sacramento State track and field program announced the addition of nine individuals as part of its 2020-21 signing class. All nine student-athletes will enroll at the University as freshmen in the fall of 2021.
