MEN AND WOMEN SWEEP TEAM TITLES AT CAUSEWAY TRACK CLASSIC

DAVIS, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's and women's track and field teams each posted convincing victories over UC Davis in the annual Causeway Track Classic on Friday at Woody Wilson Track. The Hornet men defeated the Aggies, 94-75, while the women posted a 103-78 victory.

The Sacramento State men improved to 10-4-1 in the competition and snapped a two-meet losing streak against UC Davis. The women now lead the all-time series 8-6-1 and have won three in a row over the Aggies.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Big Sky Championships in Ogden, Utah on May 12-15.

Men's Track Highlights

  • Patrick Dean ran 10.94 to have the fastest time on the team and place third overall in the 100 in 10.94. Elijah Dotson and Jonathan Yates each set PRs with times of 11.02 and 11.30, respectively.
  • Alec Foster finished third overall in the 200 and was second in the 400. Foster ran 22.34 to pace the Hornets in the 200 and had a 400 time of 48.15.
  • Isaiah Marable had the challenge of running unopposed in the 800 and finished with a time of 2:03.32 to win the event. Marable also set a season best with a time of 49.69 in the 400 to finish fourth.
  • Ruben Garcia finished first int he 1500 with a PR of 3:59.84. The performance marked the first time Garcia has broken four minutes as a Hornet and he led a trio of Sacramento State runners who finished among the top four.
  • Shane Marshall set his PR in the steeplechase with a time of 9:53.66. The time was more than a second faster than his previous best of 9:54.90.

Women's Track Highlights

  • Cagnei Duncan provided the biggest performance of the night for the Hornets as she won the 5K in the final women's race of the meet. Duncan crushed her PR by 23.55 seconds by running 17:00.70. That time is the seventh fastest in school history and the fastest by a Hornet since Chloe Berlioux set the school record in 2015.
  • LaTrouchka Duke ran a personal best 11.90 to win the 100. Duke's previous best was 11.94 set at the Sacramento State Open on Apr. 3.
  • Mikayla Revera posted wins in the 200 and 400. Revera ran 24.74 in the 200 to finish just ahead of Duke (24.86). She cruised to a win in the 400 with a time of 56.18 which was more than a second faster than teammate Sarah Collier who finished second in 57.37.
  • Collier added a win in the 800 after running 2:12.81.
  • Kathryn Loken led the team in the 1500 with a time of 4:43.94.
  • Artearra Coffey finished first in both the 100-hurdles and 400-hurdles. Coffey had a season best of 14.68 in the 100H while freshman Kameryn Brown was second in 15.04. Her time of 1:05.14 in the 400H was followed by Tria Ismay's PR of 1:0.572.
  • Freshman Danielle Gee was the first Hornet to finish a steeplechase this season and had a time of 11:38.03 to win the event.

Men's Field Highlights

  • Jaren Johnson earned victories in the high jump and long jump. Johnson cleared 5-11.50 in the high jump and had a long of 22-07.75 in the long jump. He was also second in the triple jump with a best of 43-10.00.
  • John Gibbs won the triple jump with a leap of 45-05.75 and placed third in the pole vault after clearing a career best 13-02.50.
  • Evan Stork had another meet with a hammer throw over 200-feet. A week after recording the third longest throw in school history (210-06), Stork had a set of 205-06 which placed him more than 30 feet ahead of the closest competitor.
  • Neil Laquian had a significant PR to win the shot put. Laquian's best attempt was 52-04.50 which was 3-feet, 4.75 inches beyond his previous long of 48-11.50. Sawyer Howard was second at 51-08.50.
  • John Maka led the team and placed second overall in the discus with a best of 157-08.
  • Deven Connelly continued his preparation for the decathlon by competing in the 110-hurdles, high jump, pole vault and javelin.

Women's Field Highlights

  • Alexia Croffet set a PR to win the triple jump. Croffet finished with a best of 39-08.50 which was one inch beyond her previous long. She was also fourth in the long jump to lead the team.
  • Shantel Nnaji was first in the discus (144-04) and hammer (177-01) but also set a PR in the shot with a best of 45-02.25 which placed her second. Nnaji had a 2.5-inch improvement over her previous PR which came last Saturday at the Fresno State Classic.
  • While Nnaji won the hammer, the other four Hornet throwers set career longs in the event. Erin Whelan was third overall at 164-02. Abby Meder placed fifth at 147-04. Claire March was sixth (135-09) and Deanna Gaines was seventh (123-05.).
