BABIC NAMED CO-BIG SKY GOLFER OF THE WEEK AFTER LEADING TEAM AT GOLFWEEK CONFERENCE CHALLENGE

WOLCOTT, Colo. — The Sacramento State women's golf team counted four scores between 73 and 76 during the final round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Wednesday at Red Sky Golf Club. The Hornets shot 299 — its lowest score of the tournament — and finished in 12th place at 302-302-299-903.

Sofie Babic led Sacramento State with a 1-over par round of 73. Babic started on the 10th hole and was even at the turn with a birdie on the par-4 11th and a bogey on the par-5 15th. She started the front side of the course with a bogey on No. 1 and a double bogey on the par-5 second. After a pair of pars, she traded a birdie and a bogey on Nos. 5 and 6. Babic ended with birdies on the par-3 seventh and par-4 eighth as well as a par on No. 9. She concluded the tournament tied for 13th place at 70-74-73-217.

Her efforts helped her be named the Big Sky Conference co-Women's Golfer of the Week. The junior shared the award with Idaho's Michelle Kim who shot 71-72-71 at the Couer d'Alene Collegiate to finish 1-over on the par-71 course.

Julia Becker and Nishtha Madan each shot 75 on Wednesday for the Hornets. Becker tied for 46th overall at 74-79-75-228. The senior began play on the 10th hole and parred her first six. After a bogey on No. 17, Becker birdied the par-5 18th and par-4 first to drop to 1-under at the midway point of her round. However, she played her next seven holes at 4-over with a pair of bogeys and a double bogey on the par-3 seventh.

Madan led the team with five birdies during the third round but also had six bogeys and a double bogey. She was 2-over through her first three holes but found herself even following birdies on the par-4 16th and par-5 18th. Bogeys on Nos. 1, 2 and 5 brought her 3-over before she, once again, rallied with birdies on the par-5 fifth and par-3 seventh. A bogey on No. 8 and birdie on the par-3 10th kept her at 1-over until she doubled the par-4 11th to end the tournament. Overall, Madan tied for 54th with rounds of 79-76-75-230.

Corinne Viden completed the team score with a 76. The sophomore tied for 46th with Becker after shooting 79-73-76-228. On Wednesday, Viden started with a birdie on No. 10 and remained at 1-under through her first five holes. She made the turn at 1-over after bogeys on Nos. 15 and 17. Three bogeys on the front side of the course without a birdie left her at 76 for the round.

UCLA completed its dominant run through the tournament with a 33-stroke victory. The Bruins finished at 32-under for tournament with the help of a 17-under team score on Wednesday. Mariel Galdaiano and Patty Tavatanakit were the top two individuals. Galdiano set the 54-hole tournament record at 70-68-65-203 to finish 13-under.
