  • HORNET STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN 97 ALL-ACADEMIC AWARDS DURING THE SPRING

    Sacramento State student-athletes combined to receive 97 academic all-conference awards for the 2020-21 academic year. The Hornets earned 74 all-academic honors in the fall, 45 in the winter, and another 97 in the spring.

    The 2022 season will continue for Sacramento State’s Amber Koeth and Emma Morgenthaler who each earned a spot in the Seattle Regional of the NCAA Div. I Women’s Gymnastics Championships, it was announced today. Koeth will compete as a beam specialist while Morgenthaler will be a vault specialist at the meet which will be held on March 31.

    Seniors Destiny Watley and Amber Koeth each placed second in individual events to lead the Sacramento State gymnastics team at the MPSF Championships on Saturday afternoon at UC Davis. The Hornets finished fourth in the team standings after scoring 192.975.

    Behind the second best vault score in school history, the Sacramento State gymnastics team scored 193.325 in a four-team meet against Stanford, BYU and Boise State on Monday afternoon at Maples Pavilion. Boise State, which is ranked 23rd nationally, won the meet with a total of 197.000. No. 20 Stanford and No. 17 BYU tied for second with each scoring 196.575.

    For the first time in 695 days, the Sacramento State gymnastics team will compete at The Nest when it hosts Air Force on Friday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. The Hornets last competed at home on March 7, 2020 before the season was halted due to COVID-19. After not competing in 2021, Sacramento State has started the 2021 season with three straight meets away from home.

    Led by a victory on beam from Amber Koeth, the Sacramento State gymnastics team improved its team score by over a half point from the season opener in a dual meet at UC Davis on Sunday afternoon. The Aggies, who were ranked 19th in the country after the first week of the year, scored 194.075 while the Hornets ended with a 191.450.

This meet will mark the second consecutive weekend that the two teams will face one another. The Aggies earned a 194.625-190.825 win the Hornets in the season opener on Jan. 9.
